Post subject:  V&T Reno goes home, finally!
I am surprised that no one has posted one of the latest preservation successes; The V&T Reno, long derelict in "old Tuscon" Was purchased by the V&T and is now in Virginia City, with a planned return to operation. The burned out remains of V&T cars also came with the purchase, no idea of what the plans are for them. Wish I had more info or pics, but my limited dial-up internet connection barely lets me post this!

The Reno was actually, no-word-of-a-lie, apparently purchased by a relatively young person using... income from making a game on Roblox. I am not making this up. At all.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company purchased the Reno on August 13, 2021- the exact date of Robert C. Grays 100th birthday. In 1938, as a young 17- year old he was on the California- Nevada excursion of the last or one of the last trains to Virginia City before the rails were torn up. He is pictured with the #11 Reno on that trip. Thirty years later he started to purchase the right of way and relaid rails and opened a rebuilt portion of the railroad during the Nation's bicentennial celebrations in 1976. He operated trains for over 45 years and this past weekend two steam trains ran over the route, ex. MCRR 2-8-2 #18 and 2-8-0 V&T R.R. #29. All three engines were at the original 1870 V&T passenger depot this past weekend. Attached is Liz Huntington's (The same Huntington) picture of shoving the #11 "Reno" to a new home, the exact same place where the Reno would often depart with the Lighting Express train in 1875.

Now it’s time to debate whether Reno should get a diamond stack or capped shotgun stack…

In all seriousness, Kudos to the V&T people for getting this to happen. Yet another notch in the belt for railway preservation as one of the long forlorn pieces in rail preservation finally gets the attention and care it deserves. If it gets to operate it will be the oldest locomotive operating in the United States (older than Torch Lake by just 1 year).

This is a great rescue, long time coming, whether rebuilt for operation or cosmetically restored and displayed on home rails. Glad to see someone pulled the trigger.

Wow, so many, "It'll never happen" things have come to pass in the last couple of years. This is clearly one of them. So happy to see this!
