Today, the Northwest Indiana Times published an article describing the plan to move Norfolk & Western 300, a business car built by the Pullman Company in 1917, from Valparaiso, Indiana to Little River Railroad, Coldwater, Michigan:

"Next month, if all goes according to plan, Car 300 will be transported to Coldwater, Michigan — its new home base — at a cost of $22 per mile. The society is raising funds to cover the transportation cost. Railspotters, enthusiasts who like to shoot video and still photos of historic railway cars, plan to document the journey."

I wonder if that is only for short distances, to factor in switching etc., otherwise it would be $22,000 to move it a thousand miles by rail, not really a bargain compared to trucks.

Where is it now? I thought it was already at the Little River RR - was that not where it was moved to originally?

It is currently being stored at a lumber yard in Valparaiso, Indiana. I believe this was due to the Little River Railroad needing some time to expand their track space in Coldwater.

During a visit today to Little River Railroad, Coldwater, Michigan, I was informed that N&W 300 is currently being stored in Chesterton, Indiana. It is scheduled to depart Indiana on October 12, 2021 for movement over several days to Coldwater, Michigan.

Faster than I would have expected, but good-looking rebuild (they also have a rare EMD Model 40): https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews ... ar-debuts/

That would be Professional Locomotive Services' prized EMD Model 40.
