Post subject:  Bangor and Aroostook 502 F3A
Bangor and Aroostook F3A #502 was stored indoors at the Derby shop facilities in Maine, prior to CPR's acquisition of the CM&Q. The locomotive was moved to Brownville Junction, where it stood for several weeks, prior to being moved west by the CPR. The last I heard was its being in the shops in Montreal. Can anyone update the status of the 502, its location, plans for the locomotive, etc. At the time of storage, the internals were all good, but it lacked traction motors and brakes. I assume brakes were brought up in order to move it.

Could that be a possible mate for the 2816. Think about it a classic F3 to use behind her as protection power. Overhaul it to say a GP 38 inside like the BN did with their F's and bingo self contained protection power for the steam program.

I sure hope they don't butcher it the way BN and UP did. If they need a protection unit an old VIA F40 would be a better bet, or one of the many, many F9s. There aren't that many F3s left with their original innards, 502 would be better preserved.

Yeah, a carefully preserved and functional F3A is a treasure in its own right.
Keeping it as a Bangor & Aroostook locomotive enhances it's historic importance.
