Post subject:  PRR S1 and GG1 Side by Side Footage?

Hello all,

A video has been circulating the internet as of late:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT2I7siJ9Gw

and besides being a depressing comment on the state of America's infrastructure and design, it features some footage I haven't seen before.

This includes a shot at exactly 1:41 of a GG1 and the S1 running side by side, at speed. This seems to be real footage. How was this done? Is it real?

It's one of the "bulbous" K4s, not the S1. Probably paced at the same speed from another track.

IIRC, the K4 would be 3768, a one-of-a-kind styling job by Loewy. With PRR's 4-track main (and more in places), it would be relatively easy to have the K4 and GG1 on 1 & 2 and a camera train on 4.

It was from a publicity reel that the PRR made in the late 30's

Looks like the clip in the original link you posted has some footage not in the link above, wonder where they found that - it was probably shot at the same time but not included in the PRR publicity reel.

Perfect. This is exactly what I was looking for.

For all interested, the rest of the video I included has quite a few good shots I'd never seen before, including one of a MLW F7.

Interesting: the movie of 4 trains side-by-side includes a P5a Modified (streamlined cab) still in Passenger service. Filmed in North Jersey between Rahway and Elizabeth where there are six main tracks.

Note the sheet metal preventing the crew from lubricating 3768 where it needs lubricated.
