Hi everyone!

I'm happy to announce a partnership between the Tri-State Railway Historical Society, Inc. (of New Jersey) and Operation Toy Train of New York, Inc. to preserve two historically significant 44-tonners, Hoboken Manufacturers Railroad/Hoboken Shore Railroad No. 700 and Middletown & New Jersey Railroad No. 2. The project is called "Operation 88" for somewhat obvious reasons.

Ownership of both locomotives has already been secured, along with a whole pile of spare parts to keep them operating, and funding is in place for most of the shipping cost to get them trucked to Boonton, NJ and Port Jervis, NY, respectively. We are looking to fundraise an additional $15,000 to fund the minor mechanical work needed for both locomotives and their cosmetic restorations.

More information on this joint project is available at https://www.Operation88.org.

Hoboken Manufacturers Railroad owned 2 GE 44T’s (later passed to Hoboken Shore). One of the two made an appearance in the movie classic “On the Waterfront”. Was 700 the one?
