The Chesapeake & Indiana SD-9M that was donated to Hoosier Valley, has arrived at the museum. Originally built by EMD in April of 1959 (s/n 25272) as Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range #172, the unit was later upgraded and renumbered as DM&IR 318. It was eventually sold to the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern as their number 818. Declared surplus after the J's sale to CN, the unit was purchased by the Chespaeake & Indiana. Although needing some wheel work, the unit is in overall excellent condition and earlier today, was fired up at the museum.

That really IS a gorgeous piece of machinery !!! CONGRATULATIONS --- I know you're going to experience a very favorable pleasure to pain ratio with this one, especially if you've got a new pair of trucks for it. Did that part of the deal happen also ??

VIVA HVRM 818 !!!

That’ll go nicely with your freshly painted “J” caboose.
