CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Two former Chicago & North Western F7 locomotives are bound for a new home at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.
The locomotives, F7s 576 and 578, were previously owned by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey and leased to Iowa Pacific Holdings. Although they are former CNW locomotives, they are currently painted in Lehigh Valley red and black. Not long after the lease began, the two classic cab units got tied up with Iowa Pacific’s financial and legal troubles and were left abandoned in Mississippi, along with other pieces of equipment owned by URHS.

The F7's are ex C&NW commuter F7's with HEP. They flowed to UP in the C&NW takeover. NJT bought them to power their HEP commuter trains; after new motors arrived, URHS got them and painted them LV because LV ran in NJ.

In the early 1990’s, both units were briefly leased from the URHS by Metro North for service on the east side of the Hudson. The lease called for the units to be returned in good, operating condition. As part of this, prior to them coming back to New Jersey, Metro North shop forces applied the LV paint and numbers.

So are the locomotives still owned by URHS and leased to TVRM, or will these be wholly owned by TVRM?
