Check out this photo of the still pretty much intact Lima Loco Works from 1989.

The works are more or less centered in the photo, off slightly to the right, sort of triangular shaped.

At the upper right hand corner you can see the radials and foundation of the former NKP roundhouse, the turntable for which was still in place a couple of years ago when I was last there.

You can pan and zoom.

The Terraserver is an awesome resource. You can now look up locations by address. Love to see other links and pictures to roundhouses and structures posted.

How about the Alco works in Schnectady. Anybody know the street address? How about the Baldwin Works in Eddystone? How about the MLW in Montreal?

The Alco Plant was located on Erie Blvd, Schenectady, 12308. I don't have the street number but this will work and the image is of the north end of the plant. If you pan wst you will see the Mohawk River. The aerial view is from 1997. The last time I was there was in 97 and the major buildings to the west of Erie Blvd were still there, although they were ripping up a lot of the yard trackage. GE owned the property and maybe still does. I believe they used it for production of gas turbines? The top of one building still had American Locomotive painted across under the roofline. The buildings to the west of Erie Blvd were torn down in the 70s and a Ramada Inn is located on the site, with a good view of the D&H main. I went to college a block away and spent a lot of time on the mainline in the mid 80s, luckily observing the LV C-420s, MEC U25Bs, etc.

Absolutely. I have found the Museum of Transport in St. Louis and other museums and locations on Terraserver.

The below link takes you to a 1996 arial photograph of Whitte's Marine Yard in Rossville, Staten Island, NY. This is the boneyard that was the subject of Shaun O'Boyle's 1960s photo essay "Where Eleplants Die" (discussed last year, I believe.)

The yard looks to be in roughly the same shape as it was in the arial photograph on Boyle's website. But I have been told that scrapping commenced at about this time, and only three steel hull steam tugs and a motor coastal tank remained in 2000.

Too the bad the resolution is too low to count "steam lizards". :) Rolling stock can sometimes be made out, but just barely.

As for Baldwin's Eddystone works, it was demolished maybe 15 or more years ago. I don't remember off hand what it is now though.
