EMD Displays – Locomotive Truck on Inclined Stand

We have discussed this display concept before. This time we will provide a photo.

This display, an A1A EMD swing hanger E-unit truck on an inclined display stand, was prepared for the 1947 EMD 25th Anniversary Open House event, and subsequently shown at industry trade shows up to the early 1950s. The truck used was probably a stock EMD parts department spare, sold to a customer at the end if its display use. The inclined stand allows viewing of the top and bottom of the truck.

This type of display was practical on the main floor of the EMD plant, where the display area was designed for routine handling of very heavy components and substantial cranes were available to lift and position the truck and its stand.

It would be much more difficult to display in a museum where the floor is not designed for a very heavy load in a small area, and where cranes or jacks might be difficult to use to set up and move the display.

EMD showed the A1A and B type swing hanger trucks on rails in displays at trade shows. They also showed the Flexicoil switcher and SD trucks, and the HTC SD truck, as track-supported displays.
