The web link you provided goes to a site with a curtain. Apparently it is only 90 miles from Darlington in the El Dorado National Forest, down to Stockton in the hot Central Valley, but I know of no railroad that ran in that area besides the Fiddletown and Copperopolis. If that is not what you might be talking about, it would help to provide some detail beyond clickbait. Thanks! |

Where it all began....... and California was mostly not speaking English at the time. I managed to get the curtain lifted. |

Its still a legal requirement for UK websites to ask whether you are happy to have cookies loaded onto your computer by websites, as required by the European GDPR Laws (General Data Protection Regulations) that came in a few years back. These have been carried on in UK Law, despite our leaving the EU this time last year. Just decline them and the website should still work if you don't want to accept them. It also stops us from gaining access to a lot of US websites (ie newspapers/media) when we find links to them on various US railroad forums...... |

Not sure why I do not get any box to check for bypassing the gray overlay. Anyway, this post will be irrelevant when the link goes dead as they usually do, without relevant basic info posted. |

It comes as a bit of a shock to see this anniversary come around, as I attended the Stockton & Darlington Railway 150 celebrations in 1975. It was a major event then, including various exhibitions and a parade of ancient and modern locomotives on the railway at Shildon. Shildon now has a very large branch depot of the National Railway Museum, which is to be further expanded, and it looks as if the celebrations throughout the area are being planned on a grand scale. If you are planning just one trip to the UK, have a think about this event, and research Durham as a possible base, and a distraction for any companions not completely into railways. |
