The New York City Subway has officially retired the Budd R32 cars. These were the first stainless steel cars made for the NYC Subway system. 600 were built between 1964-65.

NYC sent them off well.. they repainted the doors blue, added some other nice cosmetic touches to send them off properly!

It should be noted there are still Pullman built R46 cars operating in rotation on several lines in the city and the St. Louis Car company R44’s are still operating on Staten Island.

Ride them while you can!

Then Philly's PATCO High-Speed Line cars take the ribbon. The first batch entered service in January 1969, have been thoroughly rebuilt and are still in service.

Route is from 16th and Locust in Phila to Lindenwold NJ.

The cars were, of course, built by Budd.

R44’s on Staten Island were built in 1964, but they aren’t long for this world I don’t think. Maybe another year or 2.

Then the SIRT R44's get the prize.

Congrats to their maintenance team.
