What was the heritage of these cars? Was anything irreplaceable lost?

This'll become a real media circus.

They just "caught fire" according to the news. Right. Some dingbat set them on fire. Too bad they were decent cars at one time. Taxpayer owned now wasted.

I’d have jumped through hoops to have them.

The real issue here is the "elephant in the room".

Well, that's actually quite sad. Probably arson. Anyone need any trucks?

Not accidental. Did they burn so badly due to their interiors being redone over the years with common household materials like drywall and cheap lumber? Seems like the fire was SUPER hot from inside.

Very unfortunate. Did they all burn? I'm hoping at least 1 or two didn't and can possibly be donated to NCTM or another group.

Really not the best idea to have these in non secured storage for so long. There was no other place to keep them?

Too bad NCDOT didn't choose to rebuild them. The ex-UP and other classic streamliner cars they rebuilt for regional passenger service a few years back turned out very nice.
