This press release was posted to the 72010 Hengist Facebook page today. It's crazy how many new steam locomotives are under construction in the UK. Collaborating where they can seems like a very smart thing to do.

BTW- if you haven't visited my page lately, I've made major updates in the last couple of weeks; please pay it a visit: http://www.trainweb.org/tusp

What impresses me here more is the inclusion of General Steam Navigation. That's not a new build so much as reversing the BR rebuild of a Merchant Navy to bring the engine back to an somewhat original condition. There was a podcast done with those guys a few months ago, specifically Railway Mania on Youtube. It was quite fascinating to listen to not just the details of what Bullied did with the original design, but what changes they want to try keeping, why stuff was done the way it was, it was great.

There are also some other "new builds" under way here which are not aiming for Main Line running status as well, such as the GCR 567 Project, so are nominally outside the scope of that Builders Group....

This particular scheme has been hit hard by the Covid situation and also the significant problems that have been going on at the GCR(N)/Nottingham Heritage Railway site at Ruddington (their base) during the past 18 months, but things are now starting to progress again - though they are not mentioned on the website at the moment. Plan is for the loco to be completed by a revised target of 2027, and hopefully components such as the main driving wheels will be cast this year.....
