On February 19, 2022, Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2 was steamed for the first time since 2016. The steam-up occurred at Placerville & Sacramento Valley Railroad's small shop complex located at the former Southern Pacific wye, Folsom, California.

The Placerville & Sacramento Valley Railroad (P&SVRR) operates a portion of the former Southern Pacific Placerville Branch which once operated trains between Sacramento and Placerville, California. P&SVRR plans to utilize Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2 to power the tourist trains it operates in 2022. Details regarding P&SVRR operations can be found on its website.

Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2 is owned by Efstathios I. "Stathi" Pappas, who also operates Stockton Locomotive Works, Antonito, Colorado. Details regarding "Chiggen's" history can be found on the Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2 website.

• Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2, 0-4-0ST (H.K. Porter 4390 / 1909), standard gauge, oil-fired

Always good to see! Stathi keeps himself rather busy! No surprise there as he has no time to spread drama on this forum. LOL. Not obsessing over b.s. probably makes his life a lot less stressful. Maybe some people could learn from that.

Ha-Ha.

I'm sure glad to see that there is continuing activity on this line. While I did get a number of the SP CA branches, I did manage to have this one elude me.

I did motorcar it back in the 80's with a well-known foamer who shall remain nameless. We put our cars on near Latrobe and went East through Diamond Springs and Placerville. We stopped on the CP&LT right at the Hwy 50 crossing as we felt that it would have been unsafe to attempt to cross.

Please continue to post any news/photos of operations here, thanks.

TRS,
do you have any information about the Santa Cruz Portland Cement #1 that we had at the Western Railway Museum for a time?

She is H K Porter C/N #3578 of 1906.

Last I know she was up in Washington State?

Sure do love this loco, just wish we could have gotten it for the operation I volunteer at )but that is another story, on I'm not going to comment on in writing). I rode behind this at Snoqualmie once and it was a great running loco!

Ted:
I have it as stored on private property, Madera, CA.
Should you learn anything to the contrary, please let me know.
Thanks!

Thanks for the interest in this engine and the budding program at PSVR! SCPC 2 is doing well and we look forward to seeing you all at some point!

Best

Stathi

PS. J David, SCPC 1 is indeed in the Madera area and has not left since it’s arrival there in 2000.
