PCC 1743 at the TNMOT https://tnmot.org/ has been out of service for 5 1/2 years due to axle 3 being damaged from lack of lubrication. We are looking for 1 complete B2 axle with railroad wheels, not resilient wheels, since they run much better on our track.

We now have a complete B2 truck with resiliant wheels and plan to swap the entire axle with our PCC 1743 axle 3 which has burned out gears. PCC 1743 has solid wide railroad wheels.
Does anyone know of a museum or shop that has a wheel press? We would ship both axles to the location and pay to have the wheels swapped ?

Beware of trying to re-use wheels popped from one axle onto a different axle.

When wheels are made, the bore is undersized from the nominal diameter. It is machined out so the final diameter is just a few thousandths under the actual OD of the wheel seat on the axle. The AAR wheel and axle manual gives the recommended interference per inch of seat diameter. This interference creates the required pressing resistance and is all that holds the wheel on!

Not knowing the complete service history of the original axle with the bad gear unit and desired wheels, or the history of the new axle with the resilient wheels that you want to replace, you won't know if, when you pop off those RR profile solid wheels, and try to put them on the new axle, will be bore be too small, too loose, or just right? If the bore in the wheel is too loose, there is nothing you can do.

So you'd need to be prepared to have two brand new wheels made to fit the axle, in the worst case.

We will be sending the axles to Lyons Industries in PA to swap the wheels. They refurbish a lot of B2 trucks and have a wheel press. They also have a machine shop that can tweak the axles or wheels to make them fit. Lyons did warn me of this problem.

I am no longer looking for a shop.
