A friend of mine was wondering and now so do I, for a 50 ton engine, is this Porter rather wide base vs well all other dimensions ? Was there an order reason it is rather wide vs what commonly seen in a GE ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, exactly what failed on one of the drive gear sets, I think it was mentioned here before and is that one of those unobtainable parts ?

While I can't comment on the specifics (since I am more a operations guy than mechanical) I will confirm the the two-foot gauge WW&F railway gave very serious consideration to obtaining this locomotive for re-gauging to 24" on a 7' wide frame. A different (slightly lighter, running) locomotive became available so we went with that option.

CMRR No. 29 has a gear in one of its trucks that needs to be replaced. Otherwise the unit is in good condition.
