Post subject: | Caboose Collection (formerly?) in Gluckstadt, Miss.? |
The NRHS Facebook pagye shared this new item today: ![]() https://franklincountytimes.com/2022/05 ... n-red-bay/ Basically, a rare IC side-door caboose had been donated to the town of Red Bay, Alabama. In updating the "Captive Cabeese" book, I found that this caboose had come from a collection of five ex-IC cabooses as well as an SP and PRR caboose formerly located in Gluckstadt, Miss., north of Jackson, alongside a relocated IC depot "from Bentonia" (about a dozen miles to the northwest) supposedly owned by a "Dr. Guild". This caboose, according to the article, was "a donation from railroad enthusiast and collector Cameron Guild, of Brandon, Miss." Does anyone know of the fate of the rest of this supposed private collection of cabeese and depot? I've done a couple cursory searches, finding an obit for a Dr. Donald C. Guild from last August that makes no mention of any rail interests, but does ID "Nathan Cameron Guild" as one of his sons: https://www.clarionledger.com/obituaries/jcl130984 The existing depots database at http://www.rrshs.org/Miss./msrrstruc.htm makes no mention of Bentonia, Gluckstadt, etc. Wikimedia has a vintage photo of the Bentonia depot: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... 5647030214).jpg Another page alleges, "Old Bentonia depot collapsed due to termite damage about the time the cabooses were moved [ca. 2014]." The SP bay-window 1360 in that fleet is now in the hands of Rock Island Rail: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjscanlon ... 1407229458 This list--which explains the presence of a streamlined-cupola PRR caboose in the collection (acquired by ICG from PC) hasn't been updated recently enough to be useful: http://www.icrr.net/iccaboose.htm Supposedly I'm looking for: Alton C3060/GM&O 2612/GM&O 2735/IC 199012, wide-vision IC 9549/ICG 199549 IC 9809/Columbus & Greenville 51(?) IC 9779 (later misrepresented as 9899, supposedly AEI tag confirms 9779), side-door originally in Yazoo City, Miss. PRR 478045/PC 23277/IC 199111 (swapped for 199106 after opurchase and before delivery Any help? |
