General Electric 25 tonner roll call

GE's original line of diesel-electric switchers are commonly referred to in North America by their weight in this manner, and I'm not sure if GE gave many of them any other official model designations. The '25 tonner' is a four wheel end-cab unit with a single Cummins engine.

I'll start off the list with CRLX 1501 (GE serial 32636, built 5/1956), which was recently moved to the Victoria, BC roundhouse after a long career at the Taber, AB sugar beet mill and various other industrial sites. It was also stored at the Alberta Railway Museum for a time.

The North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC still uses its 'quarter pounder', #5951, in switching service on a regular basis.

I assume that was this rather anonymous looking switcher that I photographed at Brooks in May 2017....

There was another, rather strange looking, B wheel arrangement switcher present elsewhere on the site at that time as well.

The other little loco at Brooks is a Davenport 10 ton diesel electric. It is now at Shelton, WA.

I saw her did the Catskills Mountain Railroad got one from Connecticut. Any truth to that?

RMNE sold a 45 tonner to Catskill, but the 25 tonner is still around and was recently revived, repainted and relettered.

Besides the one here at RMNE, ex Hartford Light and Electric, then Yankee Gas before we got it, there's two others I know of in CT, Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum in Willimantic and AJ Bellevue in Scantic. All 3 capable or are operable.

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum has a nicely restored one, and its Pennsylvania broad gauge.

Our 25 tonner at Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is b/n 31789 5/53. We are the 5th owner and were responsible for the conversion to 62.5" gauge. It is numbered PTM 89 from its GE serial. 89 serves a vital role at PTM as shop switcher and rescue loco. We acquired it for $1 in 2008 and placed it in service in June 2013.

A former Kansas City power still exist near Cincinnati at drum industries. I see it quite a bit. It hasn’t ran in a few years. I contact mchugh loco to see if they’d be interested in it. They recently re July one as narrow gauge.
