I am looking for clear photos of the platform railings (back and side) of these two business cars BEFORE they received the stainless steel "modern" treatment by the MP in the 1960's. I have several photos of each car, but the platform end is dark and I really can't make out the design of the railing itself, the placement of the T&P logo, etc.

I suppose I am looking for "as built" photos, but assuming the T&P did not change the platform design when adding their logo anything pre-stainless steel would be great.

If anyone has clear photos of these two cars platform ends ca 1960 or before, I would love to see them.

Probably not useful. When I see a train with big shots on it I make myself scarce rather than gawking at it from along the ROW, and I am sure that explains in part why platform shots of those two cars haven't surfaced.

Thank you for sharing this one. I have it, but you should know that it was taken in Dallas, I believe in 1936 if my memory is correct.

I am trying to find out the detail of the railing that was on the car up until the early 1960's when the MP/TP went all modern on it. They did not do this to the inside of the car, but they did ruin a perfectly good railing when they went to the stainless steel look. Plus, the artificial awning that they added (the Rock Island and the Burlington did this too) is also less attractive than the traditional look in my opinion.

Probably irrelevant, but T&P 4 is still in the car barn at Palestine, still in its wood-truss frame glory.

The interior is quite remarkable, the wood-truss framed structural exterior visible with the sheathing removed makes it a museum piece despite the 'modernization' program.

In that photo, it looks like T&P 1 is coupled to MKT 403, which also survives as private car.

Your posts did help me with the original goal of finding a clearer picture that I had of the original railing on the T&P 1 and 2. In looking at the two builders photos that were shared, I noticed a very different marker light above the platform than I have ever seen before. And interestingly, the builder's photo showing the other side of the car shows no marker light on that side. It is reasonable to assume that the AC&F photographer took the two photos at the same time. Can anyone shed light on that style of marker light? It looks like it is almost stacked, and of all of the lights I have seen over 40 years of collecting, I have never seen that style.

The answer that referred to T&P 4 still being around in Palestine, TX, made me think of my favorite T&P business car, T&P Business Car 3. Does anyone know the fate of that car? It survived relatively late into the 1960's, but I don't know what happened to it since then. It was their prettiest car and it kept the gothic windows to the end, even with the steel siding.

The recommendation to go to the T&P collection at the Portal to Texas History was really helpful. There are several nice photographs there of T&P business cars there among other pieces of T&P equipment.
