I knew these existed, but I'd never seen a good picture of one until I happened upon this.

How many of these were made, and how many are still around?

About 2 dozen built, based on 567A crankcase general features, but with some very unique features only seen on these engines (Note SWRI identifies it as a 567C, it probably is equipped like a 567AC). Some were used by EMD for component testing, but most were used for oil testing. EMD Engineering also used their in-plant housed diesel power generating units at La Grange for component endurance testing. Oil companies purchased some of the 2 cylinder 567s from EMD, for testing their lube oil and additive packages. Some of them are still around, although not used much any more.
