Engine 557 needs a specification for the Air Filter cartridge to be used in the Westinghouse Cross Compound air compressor.

The photo shows the parts laid out with the original filter which was in three pieces. The top and bottom felt pads are 3/8" thick uncompressed. The main element measures as follows:
Height 7.5 inches
OD 6 inches
ID with perforated metal liner is 2"

This is NOT an oil bath filter. Must be dry filter element. Any specifications for a modern element or crossover would be appreciated.

A quick search turned up this previous thread, which includes the following comment from Ron Larson, about half way down the page:

Quote:
In addition to using a good oil, one of the best things you can do to make your air pump last is to use a good air filter. WIX makes a good one for trucks that fits in the standard housing, you just have to enlarge the hole with a hammer and a large drift punch. It is a: WIX 42115, your local auto parts store can probably get it.

Regards,
Bob

Thanks, that's some good information. That was eight years before I joined.

Santa Fe and others used oil bath air cleaners specifically Vortox. Vortox is still in business and still makes the type used by Santa fe in the 30s and 40s.

Dry filters like that and paper can be washed and reused.
