In case you missed it in Flimsies, it looks like the unused main line of the Nevada Northern will be purchased publicly and saved for future freight use. Good news and common sense (entire line for sale at only $700,000!) in Nevada.

Someone needs to share with them what happened in San Diego.

I agree the line needs to be preserved, but Nevada is a funny place when it comes to politics -- local or state.

Check out all the fun with the Reno Trench for an example.

Things that start with the best of intentions often don't end up the way things were planned

We've been watching both Reno and San Diego. There are a few differences:

1) the community needs the railroad to survive and reconizes that fact;

2) Our plan is to create a for-profit arm of the museum to operate the line some what similiar to the C & T S RR. Only we would own the track.

Will it happen? Maybe. We have many challenges to over come, but we do have a customer. Wish us luck.

Again, all the best. But one needs look no further than the Friends of the C&TS to see how this can get ugly. This past season was not pretty.

I respect the fact that the community needs the railroad, both for tourism and as a potential transportation system for commerce.

That said, be reminded that things don't often go the way they are planned. People and politics tend to be funny, and on occasion when mixed can get downright ugly.

Hope for the best, but expect the unexpected.

Sound advice for anywhere in Nevada.
