We have been approached by a purveyor of one of the "miracle paint protectant" ceramic polymer coatings, to try the stuff on a newly-painted piece of equipment.

Claims of: lasts 25 years, it's used on airplanes, it's used on expensive automobiles, etc.
Has to be applied to new/newer painted surfaces. Older paint has to be "clay-blocked" (sanded)- if a faded 10 year old paint job has to have the amount of labor to be sanded, I'm inclined to just repaint the car with premium paint.

Has anyone here had any experience with these coatings?

I don't know about Miracle, but we've used some ceramic coatings on our new oil trucks at work. I think we tried it out on the new Western Star when it was bought a few years ago. So far with the abuse that we put that one through, it looks great. The Freightliners that came in at the same time frankly look more like the trucks we replaced at the same time at this point. A bit weather worn, not looking nearly as nice. Now to be fair the driver that had the first Western Star took impeccable care of it and we put it in a variety of truck shows around here at the time, but even with a different driver three years down the road, the truck still looks brand new.

Now crazy idea time. You guys down there have that separate NR herald plate on 859, right? Right there you've got the perfect place to hang a test plate. Do one half with the coating, the other uncoated. Just going through the coming winter should be enough to see any differences in finish.
