News is reporting that T&NO/Ontario Northland 2-8-2 #503, on display in North Bay, Ontario, had a fire started in it's cab over the weekend. No word on how it was started or how severe the damage was. Photos from the news article show the fire being put out.

If you saw it before and after the fire you probably wouldn't see much difference. It is in bad, bad shape.

Sounds like "Fire it up and run it on the mainline" got taken a little too literally

Sorry to hear about the fire, and also sorry to hear it is in bad shape. For the record however, the 503 is a Consolidation, not a 2-8-2. The locomotive was built in 1930; pretty late for a 2-8-0.

I don't know why I typed 2-8-2, because I knew it was a 2-8-0. Definitely an interesting machine, between the late (for the wheel arrangement) build, smoke deflectors, and all-weather cab.
