MILW 261 site says their folks recently retubed this engine and did a lot of othr work toward operation. Just curious to know if someone can tell us what line the engine might be running over and what sort of passenger equipment it would use? jim

You need to consult Larry Obermeyer who posts on this list. He's from the Siouxland Railway Association. In case you aren't aware, this is the same group that is restoring the Milwaukee Road roundhouse in Sioux City.

God Bless,

I'm wondering if the group is planning on having the G.N.steamer up and running for the St,Paul Convention in 2004?

Thanks for the interest in GN 1355.

Steve Sandberg and Jeff Miller have been in Sioux City working on GN 1355. At the present time we are dedicated to getting the locomotive to an operational state. As the restoration gets nearer to completion, we will start to look for opportunities to operate the locomotive. We currently do not have passenger equipment. So far we have raised $79,000 in grants and donations to work on the locomotive. We do have several more grant requests in preparation, and we have a capital campaign underway to raise additional funds.

As is mentioned by Gerald, we are also rehabilitating the Milwaukee Roundhouse and Shops in Sioux City. This 31.5-acre complex serves has the home for GN 1355. Unfortunately, the complex is cut-off from the BNSF/D&I mainline. The roundhouse project is demanding a lot of our time. So far over $1-million in rehabilitation work (grant funded) has been completed on the complex - mostly the roundhouse building.

If anyone would like to receive our printed newsletter, please email me your mailing address and I will send you our latest issue.
