That makes 100% of the produced examples preserved... How many other oddballs can make that claim? |

Glad to see them saved. I’ve always kind liked these oddballs. SW on one end, GP on the other. And Flexicoil trucks. What’s not to love? |

https://railfan.com/what-gets-preserved-and-why/ The two C&IM units were iconic in the Peoria area, and were usually together, so a single redundancy seems appropriate. An example of a small batch unit that may have been relatively over-preserved in my opinion is the DDA40X, with 13 units (out of 47) still around, some in poor shape, if we could go back I would trade some of those for various GE models, or even four-axle EMDs, of the same era. But the decision to preserve units in the first place is rather haphazard. |

Ahhh but THAT railroad was once proud of its heritage and of its having the biggest engines. Both steam and diesel. Oh! and gas turbine electric, of course. All that seems missing is straight electric but those two motors are interurban-sized and are both preserved. Phil Mulligan |

I would like to see a couple of more steam locomotives go to IRM instead of more Diesels. They are only two locos away from reaching 29; which is the largest number of steam locomotives held at the Museum of Transport at St Louis. Ted Miles, IRM Member |
