Over two years ago, for reasons I cannot fully remember, I requested the FRA inspection file for the Nevada Northern 81, a recently restored steam locomotive. This past Friday, the FRA sent me the file. You'll notice named are redacted of people who aren't governmental employees with a citation to the specific part of FOIA that allows them to do that (for example, you see "b(4)" a lot). It's interesting reading, and really shows how hard the FRA works to assist those who operate steam locomotives. Love the redactions of the names on the original 1916 Baldwin documentation! |

The Form 4 document is surprisingly well-written and detail-oriented. Would have loved to have seen the supporting documentation. Oh well. DC |
