The ex-GN SD9 facing scrapping at Skykomish, WA has found a new home at Reardon. https://railfan.com/inland-northwest-ra ... FXcrlEwLKY

I wonder how much work, especially brakes, it took for BNSF to agree to move it, kudos to them for being so accommodating no matter how much it cost (within reason).

BNSF didn't just move it' they re-donated it to the museum (after Skykomish evidently no longer wanted it).

I find myself wondering if there is a precedent here for the Ripley Hudson in Topeka?

BNSF got it over the road quickly and it's now in the hands of dealer Western Rail at Airway Heights, WA. It will have a few parts removed for putting into the other GN SD9 the museum already has. That one is going to be put into working order and repainted in the simplified GN paint scheme.

This is good news for what seemed to be a lost cause not too long ago. This Trainorders.com thread notes that GN 1731 was being drained prior to scrapping in 2019: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/ ... ?1,4893333

This Trains magazine article has additional information: https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews ... displayed/

A take-away for other museums is to be ready to have a Plan B, for rolling stock that is owned by cities & municipal museums.

The official fundraising flyer can be found on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37275&p=335857#p335857
