Plus some other rolling stock? Bu there's a catch: You have to buy the whole property: https://dreamhuge.idxbroker.com/idx/det ... e-OH-44813 Quote: 3.12 acres of prime commercial real estate at the rapidly developing I-71 and ST RT 97 exit. This unique business opportunity includes: a turn-key diner w/ commercial kitchen constructed in 2009 with long term tenant in place, a fully equipped AIRBNB opportunity in the 1911 Pullman Presidential Club Car w/ 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, washer/dryer, and reception party deck overlooking Deer Ridge Golf Course. Also included: 1906 locomotive, 1920 railcar/diner car, 1946 caboose/diner car, world's largest bobble head statue, additional statues, lawn ornaments, playground site and antique equipment. Tap into the tremendous potential this convenient location has to offer! My associate says he saw this in person in August but just got around to getting through his trip notes now....... |

Wow, that didn't last long. They clearly wanted to make a destination for tourists, but it appears they came short by a lot. That's N&W 917, one of the "lost engines of Roanoke" which sat in a scrap yard for decades after steam was done on the N&W: http://lostengines.railfan.net/ |

Looks like the tender spent too long in the dryer. |

If this is the place I'm thinking of... isn't that locomotive billed as ex-UP? That realty company is aptly named 'Dream Huge" if they are asking over 1.7M for that property for any length of time. 71 is on a considerably high bridge going across here; SR97 is down in a valley; the property is up a steep winding drive from the road. You'll have to really want to go there. On the other hand, that green car was rebuilt for high speed in the late '40s and has some interesting refurb details, including the trucks, that might merit preservation interest or at least documentation. |

Sheesh, I'm looking at this, and it simply isn't impressive at all. Sadly, the real estate people probably don't see, or want to see, what they really have, and now we have to consider the prospect of scrapping everything. Nobody with that kind of money is likely to want what is probably considered a bunch of junk. |

I ate there once, about 10 years ago. You should really, really hate that school up north with the blue and gold colors to truly appreciate the place. Their logo is baked into the urinals in the men's room, and the rest of the place is a shrine to THE Ohio State University Buckeyes. Obviously, the place is on the main route to University sporting events for anyone coming from the north and east. I thought the food was decent for the region, and there was good patronage at lunch time. I was not there on a day that anything special was going on in the area game-wise. It could just be the original builders of the place have decided to cash-out and retire. |

Over quite a few years of driving between Missouri and New york for school, I more or less saw the evolution of this place - and only stopped once. I just had to see what that tender was! Otherwise, no real attraction for me. They had a rope for guests to ring the bell or blow the whistle from the ground, I can't remember which. Someone might want to keep an eye on it - maybe the new prospective owners will have no interest in the steam engine and try to sell it in the future. |

I visit the area every couple of years. The group I visit there likes to eat at Der Dutchman, so I've never eaten at this place. I would not be surprised to see a Cracker Barrel, or the like, at that location in a couple of years. Let the count down to "remove in 30 days or..." start soon. Bob |

I visited N&W #917 last summer and it looked terrible ! A good sandblasting and paint job would go a long way to make it look better. Adding windows and a few minor details would help a lot ! There is a Cracker Barrel down the road off of Rt. 13 Kevin K. |
