*NEW FOR 2024*
A NEW LOCATION FOR OUR WINTER PHOTO SHOOTS
Due to the very deep snow that the Nevada Northern Railway National Historic Landmark experienced during our 2023 winter photo shoots, it was decided to rent a barge and haul locomotives 81 and 93 along with our historic freight and passenger equipment to Hawaii for a new event. The title of the new event is Steam in Paradise!
Sure, the Nevada Northern Railway and other heritage railroads have been offering winter photoshoot opportunities for decades. According to railroad president Mark Bassett, "We are always looking for exciting new opportunities to attract photographers to photograph our equipment. After our experiences with snow in 2023, we thought we would try something new and different, hence Steam in Paradise!"
Bassett went on to say, "Most of our photographers are from the northern regions of the United State and they too have been battling snow this winter. So the idea was to move operations to Hawaii for February 2024. I'd say this as a win-win. We have a new event and our photographers get to take cool steam locomotive pictures in tropical surroundings. Then on Saturday evening, the railroad will host a luau. Since we have experience with Iron Horse Cookery, we will combine that with traditional luau cooking, it promises to be a one-of-kind event. Keep on eye on our online store for the official cookbook 'Iron Horse Cookery-Tropical Edition' to try your hand at them!"
Trainmaster Con Trumbull stated, "The barge has been located and we are just preparing all the equipment to be loaded on. Locomotive #93 has been in the shop being prepared for the move and will be shipped first, and then 81 will follow after our 2023 steam season. The new trackage will give us ample opportunities for unique runby locations for photographers."
"No ice in the switches, no drifting snow and no frozen tools, my crew could not be more excited for the new location," Roadmaster Angela Stevens proclaimed but noted that the track crew needed new clothes for the new climate. "Things are a little different down here than they are on the high Nevada Desert, but we are adapting."
We will be announcing more details as the event comes together and will post plenty of pictures of the equipment as it sets sail for paradise!

Very excited. Just booked my family’s flights. Yeah, they’re non refundable but this will be amazing.

It's my understanding they've located an ex-NYC steam tug and will be using two carfloats to move the equipment "on the hip," NY Harbor style.

The gauge difference will be dealt with before the event.
