Finally broke down and purchased a slide scanner. I ended up with some old Kodak Ektachrome Instamatic slides from a friend, and I thought this one would be of interest, Kentucky & Tennessee 10, dressed up as Southern 6910 in October 1965. Photo appears to be in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The scan is rough, need to edit these, as the image size is not a true 24x36mm as with standard 35mm film.

David -

I believe that this is the only fantrip run with Kentucky & Tennessee #10. When she was on the K&T, she had a "weird" flat topped forward sand dome. It looks like TVRM must have "fixed" that for this trip. Nice photo. Thanks for posting it.

Where is this engine today and why do you so rarely ever see anything about it running after the K&T let her go?

She's been at TVRM the entire time.

Thanks for the info, but I can't find any photos of this engine in any recent timeframe. I don't recall seeing her when I was at TVRM last time, is she in a building somewhere?

So why did the TVRM use her for only 1 or 2 trips?

I remember both Ektachrome and Instamatics - complete with the flash "cube". I must be getting old.

The K&T 10 operated in 1965 under a flue extension. More trips were planned but cancelled when leaking flues forced a revocation of the flue extension.

An overhaul of the locomotive was initiated in 1973 but never completed. As was stated, she sits under the pole shed next to the Soule Shops.

Does anyone know what TVRM will do (restoration wise) after they get 610 up and running, just curious. Thanks for any input.

I hope TVRM is able to work their magic and bring #10 back to life after 610!

Eastman Kodak was always pretty smart about maximizing the use of their existing machinery like the film slitting machines. Thus, 126 Instamatic film is 35mm in width while 110 Pocket Instamatic is 16mm wide.

I think Mr. Ray has posted on there that 10 is not a restoration priority, even after work on 610 is completed.

It would be neat to see back on the K&T, even if just cosmetically restored.

Dredging up an old thread. I recently ran across this photo of the 6910 operating in the early 1970s.
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/locomotive/images/6/65/K%26T_10_in_the_early_1970s.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20200303164311

TVRM's website said it last operated in the 1970s as well:
https://www.tvrail.com/equipment/kentucky-and-tennessee-railway-10/

What was the extent of 6910's operations after the 1965 Cleveland trips?

The first photo was taken at the Chattanooga Food Terminal. This was the boarding area for most of the Southern Railway steam excursions into and out of Chattanooga. It is located next door to the Chattanooga Choo Choo (former SR Terminal Station). You could pull a 20-car train in there, had water and could spot a gon of coal or the coal loader. The second appears to be end of track West of what is now the Tunnel Blvd bridge. I believe the new bridge was built in 1977. K&T 10 has 55" drivers - smaller than SR 630. It was perfect for the steep grade of the K&T but less practical than some for excursion service. For the cost of the 0-6-0 in Stearns, the 10 could have been overhauled two or three times. My 2 cents.
