NJ Transit has donated ALP-44 4424 to the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey as part of NJT's 40th anniversary. The ABB ALP-44 was the first model of electric locomotive purchased new by the state of New Jersey. The 4424 arrived at URHS’ shop in Boonton over the weekend and will be available for public viewing at URHS’s Railroad Museum festival on September 24, as well as other as yet unannounced public events.

Good news, of course.

One of life's enduring disappointments is that NJT switched to ALP-46s before the -44s hit 4449. The April Fool's jokes would have written themselves.

Yeah, maybe, but they wouldn't be allowed here.

From what I can find, no, I do not believe the NJT ALP-44s have ACSES

This is wonderful news. I would really have preferred to see them return to service (as I'm sure many will agree with me), but it's nice to at least see one not rusting away in the deadline, neglected and forgotten. Such a shame that such new locomotives went to waste like they did.

I wonder if it retains all of its internals or if it's been gutted...
