Post subject:  Fairmont Manual Hy-Rail gear operating bar

I was finally successfull in getting the old 92 Ford pickup with Fairmont Hy-Rail gear at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City operating again. Not sure how long it has been parked, but it was down much longer than I've been volunteering.

My problem now is the bar used to lower and raise the Hy-Rail wheels is missing. I know the basic design of the bar from the ones I've used on Navy bases, but I'm wondering if someone can send me a pic/sketch of one with particular attention to the angle of the bends and the length of the end pieces. Harsco reps have told me they still have them for sale and I'm going to try and call them tomorrow, but I have to believe their price is going to be way more than I'll spend bending one up myself.

Optionally, does anyone have one they wouldn't mind parting with? Been looking on ebay, but haven't been successfull yet.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Greg, just happened to be searching facebook marketplace groups and found an almost complete Fairmont Hy-rail gear operating set for $200. Hope this helps!

From the pictures in the add, I have all that (and in working condition), but it doesn't show the one thing I need. What I need is the bar with the bent ends that plugs into the holes on the gear to raise and lower the guide wheels.

But thanks for the link.

Here is a link to the Harsco manuals. Download HR0305 Series A. On page 18 (2-7), it shows a Hand Lever of a different type as shown on the Harsco Parts site. You can size it up by the drawing, get some bar from metal supermarket and use a torch to bend it. Good luck.
