Given the recent return of SMS 9, I'm wondering about the Woodstown Central's passenger cars that are owned by SMS Rail

If you go to the woodstown central Facebook page or website you’ll find pics of two of the CNJ cars that have been refurbished. Another is currently in the shop being worked on. The other three will follow in due course I assume. The Lackawanna cars and the heavy weights are at least temporarily on the back burner.

The Woodstown Central Railroad has announced the completion of it’s first ex-CNJ coach at its shops in New Jersey. Numbered 1319, the car bears the name “Oldmans Creek”, as voted on by fans of the Railroad on their Facebook page. In a video posted by the railroad, the coach is shown as part of the entire consist pulling into the boarding platform. It joins their historic caboose in their small but growing passenger consist.

This car is part of a group of 6 ex-CNJ coaches bought from the Green Mountain Railroad in Vermont. These cars and a 1906 office care are all slated for restoration and service on the Woodstown Central. Car #1312 is currently receiving work and will become a table car. Work continues on Baldwin 0-6-0 #9 as well, with jacketing being added to the boiler.

Looks like the CNJ cars that Green Mountain came from RTI in PA car numbers are 1300, 1307, 1309, and 1316...
where the balance came from still researching, not sure where 1312 was, missing one car.

I think you will find that No.9 was built by ALCO and not Baldwin.

All of the former CNJ 1300 series coaches presently on SMS/Woodstown Central were acquired directly from the Green Mountain Railroad (Vermont Rail System). If I remember right, GMRC acquired them directly from NJ Transit in the 1980’s, following their replacement by the commuter agency with Bombardier built Comet II’s.

The CNJ 1300’s formerly used by Rail Tours in Jim Thorpe went to the Reading & Northern. Two (1300 and 1316) became open cars, and 1307 was sold off. Unsure on the 1309’s whereabouts.

The former DL&W MU’s:

The three from the Stourbridge Railroad.

The two that were displayed privately at the old NYC Croton North, NY station right above the modern Metro North Croton-Harmon stop.

The one painted yellow and lettered Maine Coast that sat in the SRNJ’s yard at Winslow Junction, NJ.

Also on the SMS/Woodstown roster:

Office car B&O 912, built in 1912 as wood car, received steel underframe in 1916, sold to private owners in 1961, to the Pittsburg & Shawmut in 1974, to Hollidaysburg & Roaring Spring RR (Everett RR) in 1995, sold to SMS Rail in 2021.

Pullman 12-1 "Ellendale", later PRR/PC MW 28089, to Pat McKinney, to Everett Railroad, to Fred Winkler (W&W RR), to SMS Railroad.

Both of these cars are at the SMS shop undergoing restoration as time permits.
