The restoration of ATSF 560, 'shoe box' end cab switcher is essentially complete looking much as it did in July, 1957 when out shopped in Beloit, WI by Fairbanks-Morse. Here are some photos of this mundane locomotive in it's as built, intentionally striking, visibility paint scheme during test runs at the So. Cal. RR. Museum in Perris, CA. Reflecting the the reality of railroading in the southwest, Santa Fe would later add canvas fold up sun shades over the windshields and sliding sash to cut down on heat and glare in the cab plus hang a rerailing frog and tow chain from the frame. For F-M fans it's what's inside that intrigues-the 38D 8-1/8x10 opposed piston, 6 cylinder 1200 HP prime mover with it's 12 pistons, fuel pumps and nozzles.
