Post subject:  Whatzits???

A friend at work asked me about some pieces of wood and I drew a blank. He said that he thinks that had something to do with the railroads in the WWII era as his grandfather work on the railroad then, and somebody told him they may have something to do with the old style ice block reefers.

They appear to be made of pine or fir and are about 3/4" thick and 12" and 16" long. They have slots on the ends that are not quite centered.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ray

Is it in any way possible that they may have been used to hold open the roof doors on refrigerator cars, or had something to do with those roof-mounted-doors? The size sounds right to me.

Sounds reasonable to me. I've never been up close to an old reefer (I have been inside a more modern one) which explains why I've never seen these before.

Thanks for the response. I'll pass it along.
