Ruston & Hornsby was formed by merger just before the end of WWI; somewhat reminiscent of Lima-Hamilton and then Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton, the idea was to combine Hornsby's distinctive competence in what they called 'heavy-oil engines' (starting eight years before the Diesel engine) with Ruston's expertise in construction equipment, including small locomotives. |
