Post subject:  Grapevine RR (Tx) 2-8-2
I can't recall seeing this mentioned on here, but I had a 8 days vacation in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the past fortnight and spotted that the Texas & New Orleans Baldwin 2-8-2 that is on display there is receiving a repaint into the Grapevine RR "fleet livery"......

Looks a bit OTT to me!

If I'd have braved the weather there last Tuesday morning, the fence around it had blown down in the storm when I passed on a TEXRail train and could have photographed the whole thing, but it was back up later in the day when I was next there....

It may have been this locomotive, once displayed in Victoria, Texas park, next to the Reform School. Later moved and reviewed for service, but found useful only as a parts donor. Nice light Mikado, nonetheless.

It's been many, many years ago, but the story I heard was that they scooped out a giant hole in the ground next to her in Victoria, and pushed her into it, then buried her. I guess this is better than THAT...

Regarding the Texas & New Orleans Baldwin 2-8-2 that is on display in Texas, I am of the opinion that with enough dinero and TLC any steamer can be brought back to operational life. So, come Texans rescue this beautiful loco and bring it back to life?

The T&NO was generous in donations of these engines. There is one in Austin that has been operated, is supported by a long established group, and is now being rebuilt. There is another one in San Antonio, and another one in New Orleans, both of them have group support and are being restored. There is also a T&NO 2-10-2 in Houston, supported by a group, and being rebuilt. For a comparison, look at the much more widely known Reading T1s --- there are four of them extant, but only one functions, and another is being rebuilt. (Corrections and additions to this information welcomed)

One and the same! 771 was purchased by the city of Grapevine in the mid to late 2000s. I can't remember exactly when.

Must be a Texas thing. Recently, the Texas State RR repainted Tremont & Gulf 30 / Magma Arizona #7 back to its TSR 400 Clown Paint Scheme.
