Quote: Josef Albers, the noted color theorist, warned against the use of vibrating colors in his classic, Interactions of Color: “This initially exciting effect also feels aggressive and often even uncomfortable to our eyes. One finds it rarely used except for a screaming effect in advertising, and as a result it is unpleasant, disliked, and avoided.” https://webdesign.tutsplus.com/why-you-should-avoid-vibrating-color-combinations--cms-25621a |

Note that the discussion on 'vibrating color' assumes isoluminance between the two colors -- a rookie mistake in IxD. However, it certainly should be added that 'vibrating colors' add to the effect of zebra striping or other "attention-getting" paint on locomotive ends or sides... something of potential value in low-light conditions or when equipment is moving slowly in a visually-complex environment. |
