Post subject:  NKP City of Lima
I noticed that the Dining Car Society has been selling off their collection ever since they moved to Port Jervis. Does anyone know what happened to the NKP City of Lima? I don’t see it in their list of rolling stock anymore.

For those keeping score at home, NKP 211 City of Lima is one of three NKP 10-6 cars that were in a pool with three DL&W 10-6 cars protecting two through services between Hoboken and Chicago via DL&W-Buffalo-NKP. The car did regularly operate over DL&W in HOB-CHI service.

It took three cars to run daily HOB-BUF-CHI (or an all-Erie JC-CHI) service because the trains were slower. PRR and NYC were able to do it with two cars.

NOTE: Pullman referred to these cars by their NKP numbers because some of the names used by NKP duplicated the names of prewar 17 or 18 Rmt cars. City of Lima's name was unique to the postwar NKP 10-6 car.

Yes, the Delaware Lackawanna now owns the City of Lima. It has already been used at least once on a DL train, with their ex-Erie (EL) business are number 2 and a former EL/NJDOT Comet I car. They also own one of the ex-DL&W Budd diner (470), but it is in rough shape and not in use.

Thanks for the info Tim. I am grateful that my family was able to ride in a bedroom suite in 2018 on a round trip between East Stroudsburg and Gouldsboro. Is it possible that the DL will someday resurrect this tradition? I didn’t realize they also picked up at least 1 of the former Comet cars from the DCS.

I can't directly speak for the DL but I have seen them make public comment elsewhere that there will eventually be an opportunity to ride behind their Alco PA - I would assume the COL would certainly be part of such an excursion.

Interesting, because when they got the PA, they said exactly the opposite, that there weren't plans for public excursions;

Yep, the board had struggled with what to do with the City of Lima for years. The Dining Car Society is an organization dedicated to food, and a full sleeper was kind of wasted there. DCS has tried to become more responsible with its artifacts and realistic about pursuing its mission without the rampant scope creep that plagued it for a while. When the opportunity arose to have the City of Lima go to a home where it would be used and appreciated, it was the better choice for the future of the car.

If D-L ever decides to part with the car, then Mad River in Bellevue would probably be the logical place for it to end up.

Thanks Rudy -Are there still plans to repaint 469 in Lackawanna colors?
