This photo was just found in a box of miscellaneous items donated to National Capital Trolley Museum. There is no print date or caption on the back. The only clue for location is the lettering for "Lines" and the locomotive number 6005 on the engine in the background. Thank you for helping solve this mystery photo. ~Wesley Attachment:

Right you are, Sandy. The guy is on the steps of one Baldwin road-switcher with 6005 in back. Note the proliferation of air MU hoses. Location is probably either Camden or Atlantic City. PRSL actually had letterboards on its road switchers so the road name could be fully spelled out in a straight line. Phil Mulligan |

I've found myself scarily good at picking out locations, but this one is going to be TOUGH. There are four clues: 1. Multiple units "sitting around" on tracks that don't look completely parallel. 2. The trees in the background 3. A fairly substantial set of communication lines. 4. The clean state of the locomotives. The pair of units and pose make me think it's parked power at a terminal or yard somewhere. The trees make me think it's not AC, Camden or Pavonia (which the sitting power would initially indicate), but I wouldn't put money on the line. The pole lines make me think it's not some branch line terminal (although they could be non-railroad). The cleanliness makes me think they're pretty new to the railroad. Could this even be "at delivery"? Any context clues from the collection? Did it happen to have a bunch of "Baldwin Westinghouse" memorabilia? |
