Came across this valve at a farm auction this weekend. Figured this was as good a place as any to ask if anyone knew what it was and if it had any use or value. Thanks Jason Midyette

It looks like a check valve to me, but made for a specific installation. |

Probably for a system which moves bulk grains, beans, pelletized feed, etc... |

Thank you guys. A hyper specific check valve makes sense. I would say it is a water valve, among other things, there is no way any grain would successfully flow through this valve, nor would it be desirable for any line flowing grain to ever build up enough pressure to overcome the spring in this valve Sadly, I would surmise that, unless you are in possession of the device this valve was designed for, it has no real value beyond scrap. (If that is not the case and anyone has a use for it, let me know via PM) Jason Midyette |

I contacted Milwaukee Valve Co. with a copy of this thread and recieved the following reply, including the attached product data sheet: Chuck, Thanks for reaching out. Yes, that’s one of ours. Attached is a specification sheet taken from a catalog dated 1946. It was a tank truck faucet. Not sure how long we made them, but only an aluminum version shows in a catalog I have from the late 60’s. Our tank and trailer valve business has been in steady decline over several decades as the company now focuses more on plumbing and HVAC in the commercial construction markets. I went in to register on the forum. That may take a little time with the admins, but if you could reply to Jason, that would be great. I’d love to see if we can get it back from him. Somewhere I have an operating handle for one of those valves. They are spring loaded and have a swivel wrench that installs on that square shaft. The wrench can hook on that foot sticking out to hold the valve open. I've never seen an angled version, but the old fuel trucks I used to work on use inline versions for the individual compartment to pump valves. |

Thank you Mr. Dressel! I don't think I would have ever figured out what it was, even though it is pretty obvious once you know what it is. (The square shaft on the side is clearly a handle attachment point, the cast boss above it is a stop so that the handle is not rotated too far and the little flat mounting point on the front, with the two threaded holes, is so you could attach a sign to designate what tank on the truck the faucet was discharging) Though not railroad related, still a pretty neat object that will be heading to a good home.
