Not to seem clueless, but where is Eckley and what engine was this? I consider myself to be a major steam fan over more than the last 50 years and I have no idea. |

That engine was owned by Quakertown and Eastern at the time, which ran excursions with it. |

You know of all the questions that could be asked about this story; I thought the one that might be asked was "please tell me that a 1000 people didn't take a train ride which sould be family friendly to a stripping" Eckley is an interesting place. It was used as the backdrop for much of the movie The Mollie McGuires; Jim Thorpe was also used-ironically the "Mollies" were incarcerated in the old jail there and the railroad equipment I believe was from the Narrow Gauge "Carroll Park and Western" near Bloomsburg. There's a faux "breaker" in Eckley, it was never a working asset-just a movie prop; but as it fell into disrepair-there were pleas to the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission to stabilize and rehabilitate it-to which the PHMC rightly rejected as not being an authentic historic object. |

I thought this was about SP at Eckley Pier, California, USA: https://www.railpictures.net/photo/749857/ |

Movie props are rarely built to last. I am sure this was a factor also, maintenance of the structure. |
