Logging caboose restored on the Olympic Peninsula. The Peninsular Railway & Lumberman's Museum has just completed restoration (just waiting for steps to be fabricated) of home built caboose 1201. Using an recycled ex G.N. frame Simpson Timber RR built caboose 1201 in the car shops in 1964 on mill property in downtown Shelton. Restoration started in April 2023 and completed October 2024. The restoration took place on home rails just 10 miles from where she was built. Lead by Dale Campbell the restoration involved a new roof, floor, and nearly the entire deck to be replaced. The interior is as built and did not need but very minor repairs. Along with several donations and a Mason County heritage grant two new door were needed. Fortunately Simpson door of Mcleary WA, yes an original Simpson Company stepped up and produced two new doors to the same secs as the originals used, those doors even had the "Simpson" stamp on them, left uncovered. She was originally saved by well known Simpson Engineer Pete Replinger, who donated a caboose stove to the project. There is a photo gallery of its restoration @https://www.simpsonrailroad.org/photos-gallery
