Here's a question that came to mind following the discussion of the NYC sleeper sold to the IC used in the movie "North by Northwest": Have any examples of "in service" rail equipment that were used in feature films or on TV - and that were not owned by preservation groups etc. - ever been preserved at a later time because of being "the engine/car that was used in such and such movie?" Part of my reason for asking is that one particular locomotive used in a well remembered movie is still around - Canadian Pacific FP7A #4070, now STCUM 1300. CP 4070 gained fame as the lead unit in the 1976 movie "Silver Streak" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. The crash sequence in the film with the mockup of 4070 crashing into Chicago Union Station is one of the most well remembered sequences in film history. With several CP FP7's preserved, it would be rather interesting to see the 4070 preserved here in the states, where the film took place, and repainted in its "AMRoad" paint and lettering.
