Post subject: | REQUEST FOR N&W AUDIO |
Greetings all, I am halfway through the Southern Saga of my Revival Steam Podcast. The next saga will involve the Norfolk and Western Railway. I already have a collection ready to use in this saga. However, there is one group of sound recordings that I am interested in using—the Audio Tapes of the Norfolk and Western done by Bud Swearer. I am not able to find them anywhere to buy them. If anyone has a collection of his sounds, I would like to borrow and digitize them to use in my podcast. I will give credit to those willing to share them with me. I am also open to other N&W audio from different sources. I look forward to your response. Alec B |

I am sure this N&W audio is familiar to you, as its very well known (especially on this site I am sure), but since we are entering the Christmas season, I'll share it nonetheless. N&W Train 42, the Pelican, makes its stop in Rural Retreat, Virginia late on Christmas Eve in 1957. Recording by none other than O Winston Link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbzAJoW34DM |

The N&W Historical Society has copies of all of Bud Swearer's tapes, and they are all digitized AFAIK. However, they also acquired the rights to these recordings from Bud's estate with the idea of re-releasing them as CDs, so that may complicate things. You may want to contact them and see what happens. I have his N&W tapes and digital copies myself, but I'm reluctant to proceed without NWHS say-so. The master tapes have not been found so purchased copies is all we have left. Dave Stephenson |
