It's trains related and it's a bit personal I just wanted to pay tribute to her and her work that influence that it put on many of us. Today I learned that the legend Britt Allcroft has passed away at the age of 81. Britt Allcroft would adapt Wilbert Awdry's Railway Series books to television in 1984 known as Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends. I'm pretty sure that many of us here have either read the books or watched the show at one point or another in our lives. She would co-create another show Shining Time Station to bring Thomas to the states which was how I was exposed to Thomas along with Ringo Star and the legend George Carlin who would end up playing the character Mr. Conductor and narrate Thomas as well. Watching those shows got me into trains and never left since. As a 90s kid I remember buying all the merchandise that I could and as a adult I personally go watch some of those shows to take a trip to memory lane. I personally shared the Allcroft's era of the show to my nephew he didn't into the hobby for long sadly. Awdry created the Railway Series in 1945 and Britt Thomas the Tank Engine in 1984. Britt Allcroft's ambition to adapt those books into a show ended up playing a huge role in history. Thomas the Tank Engine continues to create new generations of rail-fans in the past 40 years and the Railway Series turning 80 this year. I think those who were influenced by Britt's work owes her a heartfelt thank you I want to say thank you Britt Allcroft for all your work you will be missed RIP 1943-2025 |

Britt made many childhoods and contributed to the revitalized interest in trains as a whole. Without her, who knows what rail preservation might be like today. May her soul rest peacefully |

If I could I would like to be able to do something like that myself but a American style version of Thomas very different. Britt is (as in my opinion) is one of those unsung heroes in railroading for what she did. |

I have a grim suspicion that Britt and HIT Entertainment may have facilitated more money to preservation-operation bottom lines than any other source. That alone gives her the right to be recognized as an honorary serious preservationist... |

Not sure how OT that is. So many railfans got their start watching Thomas that her impact may never be fully realized. Clear signals and full steam to her. |
