Always smart video taping your crimes

My word, it's all there: finding 'what looks like an abandoned train' on Google Earth, but don't try to find out what's at that address; lots of edgy, weird non-copyright music, dimwitted-sounding voiceover.

I know that line of equipment isn't going to move, but encouraging a child to climb under equipment right next to the trucks chilled me so badly I stopped watching.

There may be a moral of sorts in that museum 'dead lines' may be functionally indistinguishable from actual abandoned urban rot. Does the doctrine of 'attractive nuisance' apply to the urban explorrer types as well as to kids?

If they monetize the YouTube videos -- and I don't doubt that they try -- the notice about 'professional photographers' applied to them.

Dunno what you all said to this guy but he just deleted the video about 2 minutes ago. I still have a live window but once I close it, it's gone forever.

When I looked at the video earlier this morning, there were comments starting to be posted about it being a museum so someone may have chimed in the the word "trespassing"....

I just spoke with someone at ORRM. They had found out and pretty much reacted how you think they should of reacted.......

hahaha he just retired the video and fun fact he trespassing at first but finish to go in the museum in the end..The video text title said it was abandonned, what a smart title....(sarcasm)

Here. Compare your museum's dead line to Hoosier Valley RR Museum's dead line. Can you even find their dead line? Good luck, everything has a fresh coat of paint no matter how little anyone cares about it. Nobody confuses it for "abandoned"!



They absolutely do. Urban Exploration videos are huge, very monetized, and they do sponsorships and link affiliates. Off the top of my head, The Proper People is one of the bigger ones and unapologetically go where they are definitely not welcome e.g. Shoreham nuclear plant. Most of them *try to appear* less dickish and having compassion for the place they invaded and talk about its history.

They *sometimes* do it in coordination with the asset owner. The owner is like "I can't keep em out, I know it's gonna happen so I might as well work with one, let them do a good job, and hope them scooping other urbex’ers will deter others. USS United States has hosted at least one.

If that is so -- the owners have to have a right of first refusal about what is actually posted, and I mean an absolute right. Showing people cavalierly strolling along the tops of high-cube boxcars without roof walks, and then jumping from car top to car top, or showing children scrambling out from under equipment right in front of the wheels, sends a message to viewers that it's OK. And even if "it's OK if we don't get caught"... it's not OK, and we look like boomers if we try to grouse about how unsafe it is.

I know it's not 'snowboard jumping across an occupied main line' or surfing on top of double-stack trains, but it certainly doesn't improve the everyday issues of crossing stopped trains or trespassing on stopped equipment.

That often backfires though. You can get official permission from the owner, get his blessing that the video is OK to show publicly, and the next weekend after you put it online there were be fifty other people there looking for the break in the fence or the unlocked door so they can get in and see it for themselves. I've seen it too many times.... Taggers, especially, watch Flickr and Youtube and they will be there tomorrow if they think there is a way in.

And not just taggers: what about the possibility of unserious preservationists/foamers who see something attractive, like a builder's plate or five-chime, on the video and decide "hey, it's time for a road trip...
