Is the name an homage to this?

"The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee"

It actually is the name of the lake (Superior), but the reference is to the famous social club in Duluth. The club has a history over 140 years old!

Remember the Gordon Lightfoot song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald? "Of the big lake they call Gitchi Gumee"

Thecar was built in 1923 as Mountain View, a 10 Section Obs car; rebuilt in 1937 to an 8 Section Restaurant Lounge, flowed to Nickel Plate Road in 1948 but became Office Car 7 in 1950 when new 5 DB Cafe-Lounge cars arrived.

Not only is the car named after said Club, but I saw a comment the other day from one of the car's now-prior owners (which I can't find now, of course) where he said that they were given a full set of china from the Club to use in the car.
