I am looking for information on an Chicago Great Western EMC gas electric loco that used to be at the Kettle Moraine Ry in WI. I was told that it went to a museum in Nevada. I am trying to find out if it was/is being restored. I have been told that it was originally EMC's very first gas electric car produced. Thank you.

From what I understand, The former CGW unit is supplying parts for thier V&T McKeen. The Unit was modified many times over, even after the EMC rebuild.

The locomotive was converted from the motor car M-1000 for the "Blue Bird" train that was made out of KcKeen car bodies. The Nevada State Railroad Museum acquired the locomotive to supply McKeen body components and a rear truck for its resortation of the Virigina & Truckee McKeen car #22.

The locomotive was EMC's 22nd conversion kit and the conversion dates from 1928. Not at all the first motor car.

The first EMC motor car was delivered to Chicago Great Western in 1923. It is reported to have burned in February 1930.

The oldest existing EMC motor car is in the collection of Mid-continent at North Freedom, Wisconsin. This was built in 1925 for the Great Northern and later owned by Montana Western. It still has its Winton engine, etc.

Hope that this information helps you.

Thank You. Sounds like some of my information was way wrong. Glad to hear that it's going to good use even if it's not restored.
Are there any CNW or CGW gas electric cars still around?
